Transportation: Getting Around Belize
Destinations Belize can arrange all of your domestic transfers (air, boat or ground) once you arrive in Belize. However, we thought that information on each option would be helpful for people just starting to think through a Belize vacation. So, following are domestic transportation options for Belize.
Belize Airlines and Other Air Transfers
Scheduled Airlines: Belize has two regularly scheduled airlines, Tropic Air and Maya Island Air. Airfares and basic schedules are about the same for both. Both fly to the following airports: Belize International, Belize City Municipal, San Pedro, Caye Caulker, Corozal, Dangriga, Placencia and Punta Gorda.
In addition to these basic routes, Tropic Air also flies to Belmopan, Sarteneja, Tower Hill (Orange Walk), Rio Dorado (Big Falls), Flores and Guatemala City, Guatemala, Cancun and Merida, Mexico, Roatan and San Pedro Sula, Honduras, with charter services to Hidden Valley and Blancaneaux. (Note: Tropic has not been servicing many of these destinations due to Covid-19 issues and no one knows when these routes will return.)
Most travel agencies and hotels in Belize are agents for both Tropic and Maya. However, Destinations Belize deals only with Tropic Air because of its outstanding customer service and staff professionalism. Other Air Services: Javier Flying Services provides private charter flights to all public and private airports in Belize, including Gallon Jug for transfers to Chan Chich. JFS also provides outstanding customer service at very reasonable rates. In additional Astrum Helicopter Services provides both private air transfers and also tours such as flights over the Blue Hole, Mayan ruins, Barrier Reef and others. Pricey, but a unique way to tour Belize.
